Description

The fiberoptic bronchoscope is a medical device that transfers light and provides high-quality images thanks to its lens system. Bronchoscopy, in general, is used for obtaining samples, exploring the airways, and applying therapeutic measures.

A significant number of patients admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (UCIP) will present varying degrees of upper or lower airway problems. Flexible Fiberoptic Bronchoscopy (FB) is a unique tool available at the bedside for diagnosing these conditions and, in some cases, providing treatment during the same procedure. It is also an essential element in the management of pediatric difficult airways.

Objectives

To provide students with theoretical and practical knowledge for the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric patients admitted to the ICU.

Technical training in fibroscopy

(types of fibroscopes, handling, cleaning, etc.)

Familiarization with the normal anatomy and functionality of the upper and lower airways, as well as congenital and acquired pathologies

associated with them.

Practical aspects of performing fibroscopy in ECMO.
